A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with these three… Left to right – Ruby, Jessica and Lewis! Three amazing children who were such fun to take photographs of. They are cousins, and Jessica’s Mum Emma had booked this family portrait photography session to get some photos as a present for their Nana. What a lovely gift.
We started off at home for a few quick photos to get them used to me and my camera… All kids want to see themselves on the screen – it’s a great way to break the ice at a family portrait photography session, especially with younger children. Lewis was just loving having his photo taken and directed this pose himself!

And then we headed off up to Runcorn Woods. This day had started with torrential rain, non-stop-torrential-soaks-you-to-the-skin rain. We decided to meet anyway in case the weather cleared and not only did it clear, we had sun. And to me, sun in the woods is a magical combination. I knew we were going to get some fab family portraits for their Nana.

I wish I could take credit for directing this next photo as I absolutely love it. I can imagine it in a huge frame on the wall, and it looks like an album cover. In actual fact, they went up there and got in these positions all by themselves, I just saw it and pressed the shutter!

To keep things interesting and keep their attention off me and the camera as much as possible, we had planned an easter egg hunt.

Jessica has the cheekiest expressions!

Then they played hide and seek! Luckily (again), Ruby hid in the nicest light!

Auntie Sara had also come along for the shoot, and she’s a primary school teacher so came well prepared with loads of props… And Sara has also booked me for her wedding photography next August! We probably won’t need the props for that though ;)

Lewis is such a cool little dude. He helped me all the way through the family portrait shoot and he’s such a nice little guy. Clever too.

See… sunlight in the woods = magical.

Muddy puddles!

I love this next one too…

As we headed out of the woods onto a nearby field, Lewis showed off some pretty impressive street dance moves.

And then I decided to try for some classic lying on your front poses. Lewis first.

Then the beautiful Ruby…

Then the beautiful and cheeky little Jessica, who didn’t want to do it!

This was such a fun family portrait photography session! If you’d like something similar for your family or children, then get in touch. My shoots are all done out on location like this, giving you room to have fun and be yourselves which results in just really nice, relaxed, natural photos. More examples are on my portrait photography website.
