Many a romantic quote has gone down in history and legend – and Griff knew Lucy was the girl for him with five simple immortal words.
Let me set the scene… Meribel in the French alps – Lucy was travelling while on a gap year and Griff was working in a bar in the resort. She was in that bar. Eyes met. Heartbeats skipped. Then Lucy spilt a bit of sauce down her chin and she said the words he’d been longing to hear…
“Can I have a napkin?”
Seriously, Griff said at that moment he knew he would spend the rest of his life with this girl. He gave her the best napkin he could find.
They’re such a cool couple. Good looking, great to talk to and spend time with and just really, really nice.
Their wedding day took them from Stockport and Norbury Parish Church into exclusive Knutsford, Cheshire and the Belle Epoque Brasserie. I started the day with Lucy having her hair and makeup done.

What a beautiful bride. You could tell how excited she was. And how proud Mum Sue and sister-bridesmaid Sally were of her.

I left Lucy for some time alone and met up with Griff at the pub.

Nothing like a bit of last minute speech-writing…

Griff had forewarned me that he loves to pull faces when a camera is pointed in his direction. I enjoyed capturing his many looks!

Such a cool wedding car. A vintage 1969 convertible VW Beetle.

After a very swift drive over to Knutsford (always obeying speed limits, obviously) I made it in time to capture their arrival.

One of my favourite photos of the year. So happy, so natural. Love.

A few more of the gorgeous car.

In keeping with their skiing/French Alps connection, all the tables were named after mountain resorts. All the gorgeous stationery was designed by Lucy’s super-talented-graphic-designer-sister-and-bridesmaid Sally.

Lucy’s stunning dress was from the Maggie Sotero collection. It was elegant, classic but contemporary and she looked absolutely beautiful in it.

A few little details around the Belle Epoque while they had the wedding breakfast.

In between the wedding breakfast and speeches and before we ran out of lovely late summer evening light, we managed to get out and capture some beautiful relaxed portraits of the very happy couple.

Speeches are always tricky to capture as still images – but not Griff’s best man and brother’s, due to the large and incredibly hilarous cue-cards!!

Everybody thought the speeches were over, until what I’d class as my most memorable moment of 2010 as a photographer. Lucy and Griff handed Lucy’s Dad Dave a card and asked him to read it out. It didn’t take long to work out that this was their way of announcing that a new arrival was on its way… I’ll admit I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye, it was a lovely moment but I had to make sure I captured the reactions.

The cake icing proved tricky to cut through! Love Griff’s expression!

Lucy and Griff – I’ve told you this already but I had an amazing time as your photographer. Your wedding day was brilliant and I wish you all the very best for your new arrival and your long, happy future together. Congratulations.
