The Wedding

So here we are, Liz and Jon’s (pretend) wedding day, somewhere around 1963. Just in case you missed the epic build up to this point, here are the links:

Liz’s shoes and dress were sourced, and bouquet created by outstanding make-up artist Melanie Meik who also did Liz’s hair and make-up. So authentic. Mel – you’re a genius.

This is the real Liz. She was having so much fun.

While Liz waits at home, Jon (now a successful advertising salesman) is ready to make his way to the church, in his MGA 1600 Mk1 Roadster 1959 [supplied for this shoot by The Classic Car Hire Company, based in shropshire].

After the wedding ceremony, Jon drove his new wife out into the countryside, back to the spot where they got engaged!

Five Years Later

I caught up with Jon and Liz at their home five years later… Jon is now a high flying executive and Liz takes care of the home while campaigning for women’s rights! Sorry, getting carried away with the story again. If I’m honest, this was the initial idea for the whole shoot – a Mad Men inspired, moody portrait session. The rest was the result of two creatives getting excited and carried away! So much fun though! Again, all styling, hair and makeup by Melanie Meik – her fifth complete look change of the day. The set for this session is the dining room at five-star bed and breakfast Woolston House.

And that’s the end. What’s next for Liz and Jon? Who knows! I’m sure they’ll appear in front of my lenses at some point again in the future!

Behind the Scenes

Here are a few behind the scenes shots I took while Mel was working her magic during the day. And this proves it’s not just the women who get pampered during photoshoots, eh Jon?!

Massive thanks to:

  • Liz and Jon – such great spirits and really enjoyed getting into character throughout the day – I reckon by the end they were a bit sad to come back into the 21st century!
  • Melanie Meik – worked relentlessly to achieve our plan for the shoot, sourcing clothes and accessories beforehand, and creating five totally different looks in one short day!
  • Caroline and Alberto of Woolston House and The Classic Car Hire company – for providing our base for the day, and two amazing props in the vintage sports cars for our ‘one year in’ and ‘wedding day’ elements of the shoot. Get in touch with them if you’d like to turn up to or drive away from your wedding in one of these amazing cars – I know I would if I were getting married again!!
  • The weather – you didn’t do what the forecast said you would, and for that we’re all eternally grateful!
Trivia for this shoot:
  • The church used in the wedding shoot was bought by the villagers in the 1960s as a flat pack from Harrods
  • The village hall (used as Jon’s house) was built from the leftover materials!
  • Liz’s wedding day outfit was personally approved by Caroline’s (owner of Woolston House) mother who was there on the day of our shoot and said she’d worn almost the same thing on her wedding day in the 60s. Her mother never got over her wearing a short dress!
  • If you mix coke with a bit of water in a brandy glass, it looks just like the real thing!
Fancy having some fun like Liz and Jon did? Get in touch!

Liz Roberts - Thank you so much Adam! More fantastic ARJ photos for us to treasure ;)

It was such a fun day! Adam and Mel are fantastic people who are super talented – so book them now before they get too famous! Caroline and Alberto were very lovely, putting up with us invading their home and playing in their (very sexy) cars!

I really recommend this type of shoot to anyone. Although we love our engagement and wedding photos (by the very talented Mr J), when doing this shoot the pressure was off and we let ourselves go and had a blast!

Thanks again Adam! And yes, I’m sure we’ll be in front of your lenses again!

Liz Roberts - p.s. Jon’s going to kill you when he sees you’ve put the make up one on! Haha!
