Melissa and James’ Brilliant Britannia Hotel Wedding

This wedding is from way back in October last year – yep, I’ve fallen a little behind with blogging for many excuses reasons. I do feel bad about not blogging this wedding yet though because I know Melissa is a huge fan of my blog, and has probably been wondering why she’s not been featured yet (right, Melissa?).

Melissa and James are one of those couples who just seem better when they’re together. Don’t get me wrong, they’re both great on their own, but put them together and there’s no doubting they’re made for each other.

Their wedding day happened at The Britannia Hotel and Country Club in Didsbury, Manchester.

It was a lovely, sunny October day, sandwiched right in between two weeks of horrible greyness and rain. Some would say luck, but I reckon fate plays its part too. Someone knew we had planned a nice trip to the park in between ceremony and reception.

James arrived in the limo Melissa had arranged for him as a big surprise!

While back upstairs, Melissa was putting the finishing touches to her beautiful dress and veil, from Bride be Lovely in Manchester – bridesmaids Becky and Lesley were keeping her spirits up as she was starting to get nervous! The emotion really hit her when she got to the bottom of the stairs, and saw her son Aaron waiting for her outside the cermony room.

James was being looked after by hilarious best man, best mate and football team manager Youssif. I guess that’s one way to make sure you’re picked on a Saturday – ask your manager to be your best man! Melissa had joked to me that James ‘had better cry when he sees me’ and luckily for him, he did!

Aaron was the ring bearer for his Mum and Dad, and he did a great job.

After the ceremony, Melissa, James and their guests gathered in the hotel for drinks. Although at this point Joshua decided to tell his Dad that his flower was in the wrong place. Ouch!! Then we headed outside for groupshots and confetti – and boy was there a lot of confetti!

We had decided a few weeks earlier that we would head to a local park for Melissa and James’ couple portraits. The autumn colours in the park were amazing, and we could’ve spent hours there taking photos but we had to get this bride and groom back to their guests! Plus it was WAY colder than it looks…

Two of my favourites next. These two just say ‘England’ and ‘Autumn’ to me.

Back to the hotel, for some warmth and some speeches…  Melissa’s mum first, then James who needed a little bit of help from Melissa to get going.

Best man Youssif next. You can see that him and James are great mates, and he had the whole room roaring with laughter for his whole speech.

He had convinced James that the whole stag-do party had lost their deposits because James had left dirty towels in his room. This was the moment he read out the fake letter from the hotel explaining that the whole thing was a set-up!

It was all too much for little Joshua…

Next up Aaron said a few lovely words about his mum and dad, before Melissa made a speech of her own. I didn’t know she was doing this but as I’d got to know her I wasn’t surprised!

After the speeches, Aaron managed to fit in a game of footy and a game of pool.  You heard it here first, this little guy is good. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s Man United’s number 9 one day.  But he’s unlikely to be the next Steve Davis. ;-)

Melissa and James were really up for photography and wanted lots of portraits of the two of them, so we spent another 20 minutes before the first dance making some more gorgeous images.

Check out this cake. I’ve mentioned it already but the men in this family are red through and through. And the cake was amazingly intricate and detailed.

Then a very loving first dance, and a fantastic swing set from Andy Sharkey before I said goodnight and left them to enjoy their party!
