Still catching up on September weddings on the blog and this was my last wedding in September – it was Natalie and Steven’s big day, who you met a few posts ago when I featured their engagement shoot in Manchester.
They got married at St John’s Church in Salford and then went on to the Novotel Hotel in Worsley for their wedding breakfast and reception.
They’re a brilliant couple – they’re always smiling, laughing and joking. Being their photographer was great fun, and their relaxed approach to photography despite Natalie being pretty camera-shy resulted in some of my favourite photos of 2010. One of them even won photo of the month on the This is Wedding Photography website.
Here are my favourites that tell the story of Natalie and Steven’s wedding day.

Natalie and Steven’s honeymoon was in Turkey, which is why I took this as soon as I spotted the globe. Natalie admitted when I saw her after they got back that she thought ‘what the heck is he doing taking a photo of that globe’ but then she loved the photo!

How cute are these two practising their walk down the aisle?

I found Steven having a few pre-wedding drinks at the pub.

Then onto the church where son Mason and daughter Paisley were waiting for him.

Natalie had bought Steven and best man Chris some spiderman socks!

On the way to the reception, we stopped off at Worsley Green for some portraits of the newlyweds. The weather was just too perfect and you could be forgiven for thinking that some of these were taken abroad.
Natalie – you should never be nervous about having your photo taken.

And here’s the one which won photo of the month. Everything worked perfectly to make this amazing image – the sun was coming through the trees but they were in leaf enough to diffuse it and not let too much through. Natalie and Steven just got lost in the moment and all I had to do was overexpose for the backlight, frame it and press the shutter. As soon as I saw the image I fell in love with it. I could easily have chosen any of the others from the same series to enter but I loved the symmetry of this one too.

Natalie had the Novotel decorated really nicely for the reception.

Their chosen engagement shoot photo mounted and framed for their guests to sign.

I wasn’t at all surprised when Natalie got up to say a few words of her own after the speeches. I lost count of how many times she said ‘Oh, and one more thing…’! Brilliant.

A quick adjustment of hair before the evening party gets started.

It’s a universally accepted fact that dance floors act as magnets to young children! I always use this as my opportunity to get my camera settings right for the first dance. I very rarely keep any of these ‘test’ photos. Little did I know that Mason was going to put on a world class break dance show!!

Natalie and Steven danced the first bit of their first dance alone before being joined by Mason and Paisley. Such a lovely family moment.

Natalie had told me that at all their family weddings and parties, the DJ plays the Dexy’s Midnight Runners classic ‘Come on Eileen’ for her mum Eileen, and all the family dance around her. I wasn’t quite prepared for how immense this was, and it was amazing to watch! I love traditions – I’m an old sentimental at heart!

What a day! It was great to be your photographer and I wish you lots of luck and happiness for the future as Mr & Mrs.
