Jackie and John’s wedding happened right in the middle of December last year. I had originally met them at another wedding I was covering, and they booked me for theirs very soon after. I find it so flattering to be booked in this way, where they had met me and seen me at work but hadn’t seen any of the resulting photos. It means I’m doing something right on the wedding day – I like to behave as a guest and I find becoming a part of the wedding in this way helps me take the kind of photos I want to create.

I digress… back to Jackie and John. Two of the loveliest people you could meet, and who absolutely adore each other. I usually start a blog post with my favourite portrait of the couple but the photo I’ve chosen above is my favourite from their day for so many reasons – my real focus is to tell stories – one big story of the day, but all the mini sub-plots that occur throughout the day too. Arriving at the church was an epic moment for Jackie who was very nervous about the ceremony and being the centre of attention for that hour, so I felt the importance of the moment she arrived, and I know this photo will have such a strong meaning for her and John too.

But way more happened than just that! Their ceremony was at St Bernard’s church in Burnage, with their reception being held at the suitably grand Midland Hotel in Manchester city centre. They’ve since started Black Ribbon Designs for bespoke wedding stationery and hangers, and I wish them all the success in the world with that!

The floral goodies at Jackie and John’s wedding were by the quite incredible Red Floral. I actually heard one guest remark that the wedding breakfast room at the midland was “like a fairytale”.

Here’s Jackie and John’s big day in a nutshell…

  1. Best group shot I’ve seen in a very, very long time. I could see that being in the portfolio for years to come. And I haven’t mentioned the other shots which are … well …. just up to your usual incredibly high standard!
