2013-intro

2013. A retrospective.

Hello there! Here we are again, the end of another year. What can I possibly say about 2013 that will do this absolute cracker of a year justice? I’ve photographed more weddings this year than any other year before, I’ve grown to love this job of mine more than ever before, I’ve travelled the length and breadth of this beautiful, unpredictable country of ours and left these shores to photograph weddings in Europe and Asia. I’ve taken zillions of photos and made some brilliant new friends along the way. My best friend and my brother both said their I do’s this year too. I honestly can’t wax lyrical enough about what a truly incredible year of weddings this has been for me.

After I shot Kirsty and Andy’s wedding last Saturday, my 44th and final wedding of 2013, I sat down to work on my selection for this blog post and my 2013 collection portfolio book. I set myself a limit of 150 photos – partly because that’s the most I can fit into my book, and partly because I didn’t want this post to be too long!

I’m reluctant to call this a ‘best of 2013’ collection or anything like that because I just don’t know if this is my best work of the year, that’s not really up to me to decide. This is merely a selection of my favourites – I have many more favourites that I had to leave out to meet my self inflicted 150 photo limit – I could’ve picked 500 or more! It’s a selection of the photos I feel really proud of, or make me smile, or make me remember something special about 2013 and the weddings I’ve photographed. It’s a retrospective.

Thank you to the wonderful and unique couples who have invited me to photograph their weddings this year and in the future, but also to the people who support me by commenting on my blog posts and on my facebook page. Your support truly means a lot.

And of course thank you my family, especially the wonderful woman I married six and a half years ago who has moaned a bit about all my travelling this year but supports me unconditionally in the decisions I make, particularly when leaving her and my two amazing boys behind to go and take pictures at weddings overseas.

2013 has inspired me, has made my world bigger, has taken me to places I may never have visited and has created countless new special memories for me. I’ve loved it. Absolutely loved it.

I totally don’t know where to start with just how amazing these pictures are and what an astounding photographer you have become.

To have this body of work from a single year is pretty unbelievable. You are consistently world class as a wedding photographer and I genuinely don’t say that just because you are a friend.

From wedding to wedding and from year to year just keep getting better and better. If you weren’t such a nice guy I could easily find it within myself to be quite jealous of how good you are.

2014 – keep on keeping on. You rock!

I don’t know how you do it, or what you do, but you’ve done it in bucket loads this year.
    Fantastic work.
    Here’s to 2014!

You’ll never really know how incredibly proud I am of the little boy who couldn’t say boo to a goose! These are absolutely amazing, talent in bucket loads, could say more but won’t, except I love you xx

A round of applause ripples through my head whenever I see your year end posts AJ, and every year there is a cry for an encore. (I’m not schizophrenic, I promise)

Every single frame is exciting and fresh, and some of them are just exhilerating. I have no idea how you do what you do, but you do it so well. Your eye for a memorable shot has been honed to perfection, can’t see how you can get any better, but I’m sure you’ll prove me wrong in ways I couldn’t imagine.

    A-freaking-mazeballs.
