Jewish Wedding Liverpool Sefton Palm House

Jewish Wedding Photography Liverpool at Titanic Hotel and Sefton Park Palm House

Martine and Richard’s amazing Jewish wedding at Titanic Hotel and Sefton Palm House Liverpool

I love Jewish weddings. I love all the ceremonial moments – the tisch, the bedeken and the chuppah. I love how they flow so quickly from serenity and solemn and serious into chaotic and bonkers and fun. I often joke that if I don’t end up with some kind of injury at Jewish weddings then I did it wrong. Martine and Richard’s I ended up with a phantom leg injury that I don’t even know how it happened but my shin went all sorts of purple for quite a few weeks afterwards, so all in all a success.

I started the day at the incredible Titanic Hotel in Liverpool along with my second-shooter for the day, the awesome Toni Darcy. I love this hotel, I think I could quite happily live here. I’d love to shoot a full wedding there, but Martine and Richard were just there to get ready, as they would soon head over to the very different but equally incredible Palm House at Sefton Park. If you’ve seen “Batman and Robin” (arguably not one of the better batman films, but who doesn’t love Schwarzenegger and Uma Thurman) then in my warped mind, Sefton Park Palm House reminds me of Poison Ivy’s lair. It’s a massive glass house with a sort of indoor forest growing through it. It’s awesome. I love it there. This was my second time photographing a wedding at Sefton Palm House and it was great to be back!

Once Richard arrived, the Tisch started, and soon after Martine was ushered in through a different entrance to wait for Richard to come down and unveil her at the Bedeken ceremony. I actually really love this tradition at Jewish weddings, how the bride and groom’s first time of seeing each other is just with their closest family around them. It’s a lovely moment, mixed with humour as the groom still has to confirm it’s the right girl! Then they make their way to the chuppah separately, with their parents – an equally lovely moment because the groom gets to make his own entrance with his parents before the bride makes her entrance with her parents.

After the ceremony everyone headed outside for some sunshine and I whisked Martine and Richard away for some portraits around Sefton Palm House, and then it was Israeli dancing time. Man alive, this is my favourite bit of Jewish weddings! It’s like the friendliest brawl ever, but still a brawl. There were times when it looked like Richard had no idea where he was! Martine was treated more kindly by the ladies but it’s still total chaos! This may have been where I injured my leg but who knows. I think Richard had to get changed straight after!

The whole day was made even more awesome by the presence of the Creation Show Band. They played relentlessly all day long, on the stage and down interacting with the crowd too. I’d love to be a musician and I was totally in awe of these guys for their passion and skills. I really hope I get to work with them many times in the future! It was also brilliant to work with one of my favourite wedding industry people, and one of my all round favourite people actually, Dave from b2bproductions.co.uk who filmed Martine and Richard’s wedding day – always a joy to work with you Dave!
