Vanessa and Alex’s wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn, Congleton, Cheshire

I’ve been at Sandhole Oak Barn in Cheshire more than any other wedding venue this year and Vanessa and Alex’s wedding there back in August was my last visit. Vanessa is from Germany so there were a few nods to her German heritage throughout the day including bilingual speeches, cutting a red ribbon as they left the ceremony, and for some reason beating up a black dragon with some sticks while blindfolded. Don’t worry, no actual dragons were harmed during the making of this wedding.

Vanessa and Alex both got ready at Sandhole Oak Barn, Vanessa with her bridesmaid and the two mums and Alex with his best woman. These are two of the most brillianty laid back people I’ve met all year. And behind that super laid back exterior lurks an absolute passion for all things sci-fi and fantasy. I realised when I received their Stargate inspired invitation that these two were sci-fi nuts and that was definitely a theme of their wedding too – right down to Alex’s battlestar galactica cufflinks!

Lots of Vanessa’s family had made the journey over from Germany to celebrate with them and they obviously enjoyed the Fish & Chips canapes (as well as all the other delicious food laid on by my wonderful friends at Top Table Weddings – it’s been an absolute pleasure working with you on each and every single occasion Annette, Nicola and team).

This was a day that was pretty typical of August this year – drizzle and cloud followed by an inredible sunset and there are few places as beautiful as Sandhole Oak Barn when that summer sun descends.
