Sorrento wedding at the cloisters and Villa Silvana
John and Mel’s wedding in Sorrento
I love Italy. I love the Amalfi Coast. I love Sorrento. I remember going there back in 2013 for Kate and David’s wedding, and just finding it to be such a magical place, and you can see why it’s a hot spot for people in love to make it official. I also remember thinking after being there in 2013 that I’d be back soon… but John and Mel’s wedding is the first time I’ve been back since, almost 6 years later – crazy!
John is also a wedding photographer here in my home town of Manchester, and there’s something insanely flattering about being asked to photograph another wedding photographer’s wedding, wherever in the world it is, let alone somewhere as crazy beautiful as Sorrento. Mel is also a creative herself, so I took it as a huge compliment to be asked to capture their celebrations in Italy. The first time I met them at a pub near my house I just had this feeling that we’d known each other for years, and that’s special in itself.
John and Mel had their ceremony at the famous San Francesco Cloisters in the centre of Sorrento… but sadly the Italian weather went off-script and decided to rain, meaning they had to have their ceremony under cover at the side BUT I actually think it was just as beautiful as if they had got married in the centre of the cloisters! After the ceremony the weather was blazing sunshine and we had a good walk around Sorrento before their reception at the amazing Villa Silvana!
When you arrive at Villa Silvana you feel like you’re in a sort of mafia hideout. But in a good way! There’s just something about Villa Silvana that oozes coolness, but is at the same time really understated. The weather held out long enough for them to have some drinks on the terrace with amazing views of the bay, and then turned again but the rain helped us make a special shot in the evening as you’ve seen above! And the night finished with a truly epic party in this truly epic villa for John and Mel. Unforgettable!
