Julie + Richard’s amazing winter wedding at 10-11 Carlton House Terrace
I love people who wear their hearts on their sleeves, and Julie and Richard are absolutely two of those people. They are so clearly besotted and in love with each other, and that’s a joy to see and photograph. In the build up to their wedding Julie made no secret of how excited she was to see the photos – no pressure – and when I turned up to meet them a day before their Carlton House Terrace wedding for a quick pre-wedding portrait shoot around Westminster, straight away it just felt like we’d been friends for years.
When I arrived back at Carlton House Terrace the next morning the excitement in the air was palpable and contagious. I could tell Julie was nervous as she quietly did her own makeup in the corner, while her bridesmaids bounced around the room super excited for the day ahead. Every person who entered the room, Julie was so excited to see them – many of them her family who had flown over from her homeland of Canada to watch her marry Richard at Carlton House Terrace. There were loads of emotional moments that morning – from the belly laughs as Julie and her bridesmaids fed each other Krispy Kreme donuts, to the tears as she exchanged gifts with her Dad and more tears as her mum helped her into her dress and MORE tears each time someone told her how amazing she looked and then THE MOST TEARS as she finally walked down the aisle to marry Richard!
But just before she did that, was one of my favourite wedding moments ever. Julie had told me she wanted to exchange cards with Richard before the ceremony and read them together without seeing each other. After a little thought we found a door they could stand either side of. Julie was running a bit late for the ceremony but she wanted to stick to this plan, so five minutes after the ceremony was due to start I ran upstairs to get Richard… “What?! Now?!” was his reply! But that moment as they read their notes from each other, and then instinctively reached around the door to hold hands with each other was just totally magical and one I’m sure they’ll remember forever.
Way more cool stuff happened but I’ll just let the photos do the talking now… Congratulations (and happy anniversary, and congratulations on your new baby!) to the amazing Julie and Richard – two of the best people I’ve ever met, I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.
