Chatsworth Wedding Photography at Heathy Lea
Becki and Ben’s super emotional wedding at Heathy Lea in the Chatsworth Estate
I hadn’t met Becki and Ben before their wedding. We’d spoken on the phone and from that I knew they’d be super friendly, but the first time I saw their faces was when I turned up to Heathy Lea in the beautiful Chatsworth Estate on the morning of their wedding back in June. And I don’t mind admitting that my
shallow first reaction was ‘well these two are a bit bloody gorgeous’!! The morning was what I’d class as pretty ‘normal’, if a little more emotionally charged than usual – people rushing around, mildly stressed about clothes and hair and having just the right length of stubble for the day ahead. Even though I was trapped right at the back during the church ceremony in Edensor, the emotion of it was palpable – and not just between Becki and Ben, but amongst all the guests. The hugs as everyone came out of the church were also meaningfully squeezy…
When we arrived back at Heathy Lea for their wedding reception, Ben had to visit the little boys room and it was drizzling outside so I shot a few portraits of Becki with an umbrella and chatted to her a bit about random stuff. She was telling me how she’d recently changed careers quite dramatically from fashion design to radiography. This was the point I started to realise there may be more to this couple, and this wedding, than meets the eye…
There was an immense level of happiness in the marquee as they had drinks and canapes (dedicated to Becki’s late grandma’s recipes), so many hugs, so many kisses and some tears (mostly from Becki’s awesome dad). It was such a joy to be part of it and to capture all this. Soon after this, the speeches happened and they were hands down the most heartfelt, tear-jerkingly emotional speeches I’ve ever heard or seen. They were super emotional for all the usual reasons but also for a pretty unique one – Becki had recently recovered from Lymphoma.
Becki was the last person to stand up and say a few very poignant words. She made everyone laugh and cry and her words will stick with me forever. When she was diagnosed, she made herself a bucket list. But there were only two things on that list:
1. Beat the illness
2. Marry Ben
That day in June, she completed her bucket list.
These two are amazing people, with beautiful faces for sure, but even more beautiful souls. They inspired me, and I can tell they are a constant inspiration to everyone else who celebrated their wedding with them that day. Thanks for having me you guys – I wish you so much happiness for the future.
