Jo and Hugh’s phenomenal wedding at the Hillbark Hotel

Where can I even begin to describe Jo and Hugh’s wedding at Hillbark Hotel on the Wirral. It was out of this world crazy in the best possible way. I knew when I met Jo and Hugh that their wedding would hold a few surprises, and I was right. I’ve truly never met a couple like Jo and Hugh, they are utterly unique and utterly brilliant and so full of life and love. Hillbark hotel is actually one of the most beautiful venues I’ve worked at too, but this one is all about Jo and Hugh.

I was also lucky to have the incredible Chris Mee with me for the first half of this day, and he spent the morning taking photos of Hugh while I was with Jo.

They both got ready at Hillbark having travelled back up north from their London home but honestly the getting ready part of the day gave away nothing about the amazingness that was to come for the rest of the day. When they are apart, Jo and Hugh are still amazing people, but when they are together they are something special. Hugh’s smile as he waited at the front of the church couldn’t hide his nervous excitement that he was about to marry Jo, and when she arrived at the front, after a few happy tears, they smiled and laughed their way through the rest of the day together.

When I spoke to Jo and Hugh ahead of the big day, I asked them what they were looking forward to most. As with most people they were looking forward to the whole thing and to having the people most special in their lives around them. But they were most looking forward to the party, to truly letting their hair down (or in Hugh’s case, taking his shirt off) and to what promised to be an epic set by Ultra 90s – an amazing 90s dance tribute band. I’ve been to weddings with brilliant party atmospheres in the past but let me tell you, this was next level. I’ve never seen so many people have so much fun at a wedding. It was more like being at a gig – the concoction of Ultra 90s, Hugh, Jo and their family and friends blew the roof off the marquee at Hillbark. I highly recommend Ultra 90s and hope to see them at many weddings in the future!

What a day. Oh, and prepare for some tasteful nudity! Congratulations Jo and Hugh, total and utter rockstars!!
