Micklefield Hall Wedding Photography
Charlotte and Tom’s beautiful Wedding Photography at Micklefield Hall near London
I think one of the things I love about weddings is that it’s often the unscripted elements which form the basis of the story, after the day itself. In the build up it’s all about planning the main events – the dress and suits, the ceremony hymns and readings, the drinks and food, the playlist. But on the day itself things happen which often weren’t part of the plans, but become a big player in the way the story is told once the dress is back in its box, the suits are returned to the shop and the songs have been enthusiastically sung along to!
I’m pretty sure Charlotte didn’t expect her veil to be a major player in her wedding story, but with it stuck to the church wall, 10 feet above her head, 30 seconds before the ceremony it certainly became a leading character in this wedding! There we were outside the church, waiting for the bus to deliver the bridesmaids, Charlotte re-fixed her veil, then a sudden gust of wind took it clean out of her hair and after a couple of tornado-esque whips, it stuck to the church wall. Charlotte wasn’t happy. For me it was one of those should I/shouldn’t I moments – not wanting to annoy Charlotte by clicking away while she’s just wanting someone to retrieve her veil, but also knowing it would all work out and this would be a big hole missing from the visual story if I didn’t capture it. So capture it I did. And it did work out – she walked down the aisle with the veil firmly back where it belonged!
After the church, they headed to the amazing Micklefield Hall. A beautiful wedding venue just outside London, and this was my first visit. Micklefield Hall is such a gorgeous venue – Charlotte and Tom didn’t have the greatest of weather overall, but it did seem to respectfully rain when they were happily indoors, which allowed them to enjoy their drinks reception outside and meant we could explore the beautiful gardens at Micklefield Hall for some portraits – the sun even shone for us!
While Charlotte and Tom ate their wedding breakfast in the Micklefield Hall barn, I scoped out when and where the sun would set and crossed my fingers. The sky was full of clouds, but there was a tiny gap between the clouds and horizon and I was pretty sure the sun would make an appearance for a couple of minutes before dipping below the horizon – and I was right! I persuaded Charlotte and Tom away from their dance floor for less than 10 minutes so we could make the most of it! You can’t plan for a sunset so dramatic, you just have to be in the right place at the right time!
