Kate and James’ Wedding at Styal Lodge, Cheshire
Can a wedding day have everything? Well if not, Kate and James’ wedding from a few weeks ago at Styal Lodge comes very, very close indeed. It was one of those British weather days where it kept threatening to conspire against us, but just kept turning out to be a blessing in disguise. The massive downpour of hail just after the ceremony that drove everyone inside and created a super intimate atmosphere for their drinks reception, and actually cleared the sky for some incredible sunset light portraits by the lake. The sudden and unexpected monsoon rain that poured just as we were planning to go out to take some after dark portraits, that became super-epic rainy shots in the beautiful Styal Lodge garden. Whatever this day threw at Kate and James (and me, I was SOAKED after the rain shots!) it just made the day better and better and better. Even after I’d put my cameras away, I came back to find Kate being thrown around the dance floor by a kilt wearing guest. Two seconds later I was back to capture it and get the closing shot for them and for this blog post. I left them partying the night away with a huge smile on my face, leaving a venue that I know better than any other and have worked at more often than any other, with a whole new unique set of wedding photos for Kate and James. Of course they are the real stars – such happy people, so comfortable in each others arms, and so willing to let their happiness show in the biggest smiles I’ve seen all year. They are tremendous.
And thank you, as ever, to the dream team of Styal Lodge and Pink Pepper catering. Never does a wedding day run smoother than when these guys are running the show. So professional, so perfect. I’m sad that it looks unlikely that I’ll be going back to the lodge next year, as I’m almost fully booked without a single wedding at Styal Lodge. Come on wedding gods, sort that out.
Talking over, feast your eyes on this lot…
