Yorkshire Dales wedding at Hazel Brow
Laura and Aidan’s wedding in the Yorkshire Dales
I was in the lobby of the El Dorado Casino Hotel in Reno, Nevada when Laura sent me a message on instagram asking if I was free to photograph her wedding in the Yorkshire Dales. That’s a true story but the only reason I’m telling you is because I think it’s quite a cool way to begin a blog post, and how often can you say something happened when you were in the hotel lobby of a casino-hotel in Reno?
So yeah there I was, in Reno. And honestly I was over the moon to get the message. Laura’s a fellow wedding photographer and having seen the photo pop up on instagram weeks earlier when Aidan had popped the question, I was secretly wishing that Laura would ask me to be the photographer. And she did! While I was in a… oh I already told you that bit. Anyway, Reno was a one night stopover on the way to Yosemite so I told her I’d love to be her photographer as long as I wasn’t eaten by bears in Yosemite. I wasn’t eaten, and didn’t see a single bear.
Laura and Aidan’s wedding was so perfect. Just them, their absolute closest family and friends, and me at a beautiful secluded house deep in the Yorkshire Dales they love so much. I arrived the evening before while they were still dressing the venue and when Laura’s mum gave me the choice of three different trifles I knew it was going to be a special weekend. And it really was. Photographers tend to be exceptionally camera-shy and Laura is no exception, offset wonderfully by Aidan’s total lack of shyness which he clearly gets from his dad, Steve, who gave one of the best speech-performances ever (I don’t think simply calling it a speech, given the amount of props used, quite does it justice).
It was a weekend celebrating family as much as marriage, it was fun from start to finish, and I was glad I didn’t get eaten by bears and was able to be there to capture it and experience it.
