Hvar Island Croatia destination wedding photography
Francesca and Joe’s destination wedding in Hvar, Croatia
This felt like a family wedding. In 2014 I photographed Caroline and Dan’s wedding at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, then in 2016 I photographed Caroline’s cousin Rachael and Liam’s wedding in Liverpool, and Francesca is Rachael’s sister. When I arrived in Hvar to meet them all I remembered why I love this family so much – they’re so welcoming, so positive, so much fun to be around. They’re a proper unit of a family and it’s wonderful and inspiring to see and be part of.
But this one was all about Francesca and Joe and the glorious island of Hvar. I’d heard of Hvar but it hadn’t really been on my radar until Francesca and Joe decided to get married there, but oh my word what a place. I don’t think you could visit Hvar for a wedding or any other reason and fail to be totally blown away by it – it’s so tiny but so charming. You fly to Split and get a 2 hour ferry from there and you arrive onto this little fairytale of an island that feels a bit like a film set it’s so perfect, with its marina full of super-yachts and ultra clean streets and its winding alley-style roads lined with uber cool bars and restaurants. I believe it’s a regular destination for the rich and famous which is clearly why I fit in so well there…
It was also very hot! And I wouldn’t recommend walking 45 mins across the island with three camera bags hanging off you unless there’s a shower at the other end. Lesson learned!
Francesca and Joe’s destination wedding on Hvar was so beautiful, and so full of happiness. Extra special because their little son was able to be there and experience it too – to be fair he slept through most of it, but I hope one day the photos show him what a special part of the day he was.
To Francesca, Joe and your whole family, thanks for continuing to trust me with these memories time and time again. I love being part of your special days.
