Inverness Wedding Photography Achnagairn Castle
Stephanie + Ewan’s two day Mexican-Scottish destination wedding at Achnagairn Castle, Inverness
It had been almost three years since I was last at Achnagairn Castle – that time for Katie and Rog’s wedding. It was a venue which totally captured me then, and I wondered if it would be just as captivating returning for a second time, and it absolutely was.
Stephanie and Ewan live in the USA. Ewan grew up in Scotland and Stephanie in Mexico. So this was a meeting of two cultures and two fun-loving families in the highlands of Scotland for an amazing destination wedding. Once everyone arrived at Achnagairn Castle on the Wednesday they had arranged an evening of highland games and ceilidh to really get everyone into the Scottish spirit (with plenty of tequila supplied by the Mexican contingent!). It was such a fun afternoon and evening, watching everyone come together and really settle into Achnagairn and into the fun, laid back spirit that Stephanie and Ewan wanted to create for their guests who had flown in from all over the world. Inverness is near nowhere so even the closest relatives had to drive a few hours!
The next day was the wedding day and I spend the morning (along with the brilliant videographer Ross from Thistle Productions) running around Achnagairn Castle mainly trying to find Ewan in between capturing Stephanie and sisters and the two mums getting ready in the bridal suite. There was very little stress or worry or clock-watching. Just a bunch of people having a great time and getting ready to enjoy the amazing day ahead.
There was an beautifully personal and intimate feel to Stephanie and Ewan’s wedding at Achnagairn Castle. Although they had an official registrar to take care of the important legal elements of the ceremony, the majority of the ceremony was led by Stephanie’s sister Jenny, which I thought was amazing. And soon after the ceremony was done and confetti thrown, Ewan had arranged for some of Stephanie’s friends from back home in the US and Mexico to skype in and wish her congratulations – a really beautiful thought and I know it meant so much to Stephanie.
The Great Hall at Achnagairn Castle is one of my favourite rooms at any wedding venue anywhere. It sort of feels like something from Harry Potter. Such a warm feeling room with great soul. And the speeches absolutely lived up to the surroundings with everyone either shedding a tear or rolling around with laughter. Perfect.
The night continued with dancing and laughter until the early hours. It was such a privilege for me to capture Stephanie and Ewan’s destination wedding at Achnagairn Castle and here are some of my favourites from their two days of celebration…
