Filigare Tuscany Wedding Photography
Helen and Baz’s ultra emotional destination wedding in Tuscany at Le Filigare
Where do I EVEN start?!
I’m not sure this post even needs words really. The photos will tell you all you need to know about Helen, Baz, the crazy amount of love, respect and friendship they have for each other and how tremendous their family and friends are and how that all translated into one unforgettable wedding weekend in Tuscany. But I have lots of words, and I like words, so I’m going to write some cos I think it’s a good story.
It was the 20th of June 2016. I had just photographed two weddings in Sicily that weekend (Elena + Alex at San Domenico Palace and Denise and Steve at Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo) and I was hanging out with a few of the guys from Denise and Steve’s wedding in one of the bars along Corso Umberto in Taormina watching England stutter to a bore draw against Slovakia in Euro 2016. I was in a very happy place having just photographed two weddings in one of my favourite places in the whole world, and surrounded by new friends who had taken the lone photographer under their wing and made me feel like a mate, inviting me out for dinner and football. I’d had a really cool connection with Helen and Baz from the first night in Sicily and by now I’m not gonna lie, I wanted them to be my best mates! We hung out all night, drank beers and eventually whiskey and that’s when I told them I was going to be their wedding photographer.
They didn’t know when or where they were going to get married at that point, but they were engaged. Nonetheless, I launched a whiskey fuelled sales pitch at 3am in an airbnb on the back streets of Taormina. Frankly, I wasn’t going to allow anyone else to photograph their wedding. The next day Baz and I had some lunch together while Helen sunbathed down at Isola Bella and my stalker status was confirmed as I somehow managed to catch up with them at their gate at Catania airport to wave them off! I knew I was going to miss hanging out with them!
Luckily they thought I was more friendly than creepy and we kept in touch after getting back to the UK. Eventually they settled on a wedding in Tuscany and I recommended Fattoria Le Filigare to them, because I’d worked there only a few months earlier for Susan and Joe’s wedding and I knew it would suit Helen and Baz’s plans perfectly. Then their wedding planner Pia recommended it to them too and took them for a visit and they loved it. Soon after they booked me in and I was ECSTATIC!
We carried on keeping in touch but these two are exceedingly busy people and they wanted a very chilled out wedding with no real formality so the most I knew was that the wedding would be late afternoon, there’d be a welcome party the day before and I should just come and hang out with my cameras. I did gatecrash a barbecue at their house to try and get a bit more info out of them but all I could really find out was that they were going to turn up, dress up and enjoy it. An absolutely plan if you ask me.
What happened over the next 72 hours blew my mind. It was just a total whirlwind of food, drink, laughter, music and dancing. And tears. Lots and lots of the happiest of tears. And I was so happy to be there enjoying it along with them and capturing it all.
I have so many highlights of Helen and Baz’s Le Filigare wedding – the hilltop ceremony with the best views ever, the Persian elements during the ceremony which meant the world to Baz’s mum, the parade from ceremony to dinner with Helen in a wheelbarrow, the look on Helen and Baz’s faces when Helen’s legendary dad Andrew delivered part of his speech in Farsi (goosebumps), and Baz’s mum tightly hugging him during his speech as he so bravely shared some very personal words about his late father. One of my personal favourite memories of the weekend is Helen’s mum Susan making me possibly the best egg mayonnaise sandwich I’ve ever had, then seeming genuinely disappointed when I didn’t come back for lunch the next day!
See, I told you I had words. I have more, but the pictures say it better than I ever could I think. Congratulations Helen and Baz! I love you guys immensely. Here are some of my favourites from your wedding at Le Filigare in Tuscany…
