Le Filigare Wedding Photography Tuscany
Susan and Joe’s destination wedding in Tuscany
I think Tuscany might be my new spiritual home! I had first visited a few weeks earlier for a wedding at Castello di Casole, and now here I was back again for the wedding celebrations of Joe and Susan at Le Filigare in the Tuscany hills. An incredible venue split across two properties, separated by acres of vineyard and sitting peacefully overlooking the incredible Tuscan vistas. It’s the sort of place where just breathing the air makes you feel more relaxed, combined with one of the most relaxed and happy couples I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet made for a truly unforgettable few days in amazing Tuscany with Susan, Joe and their amazing families and friends. I left feeling like one of their mates, and that’s a very special feeling to have when you’re travelling around the world on your own!
I was with Susan and Joe for the best part of 4 days at Le Filigare, photographing their family welcome dinner on the first night and capturing little details as I wandered around, like Joe’s mum putting together all the ceremony flowers and bouquets and Susan’s sisters and friends practising their dancing out on the lawn at Le Filigare. But in an effort to keep the blog short-ish I’m starting with their pre-wedding shoot and sunset welcome dinner the night before their wedding…
Pre-wedding shoot, dance practice and welcome dinner
With everyone well and truly settled in at Le Filigare, I was able to steal Susan and Joe away to explore the estate for some pre-wedding portraits. This was a great way to spend time together just the two of them, as they had been busily helping with preparations and welcoming their families to Tuscany. We wandered around for an hour or so as I captured a few portraits of them just being them.
The next day they asked me to come with them and get a few shots as they practiced for their first dance. This actually became one of my favourite parts of the whole weekend as they danced, giggled and laughed their way around trying to get their routine perfect, while YouTube kept buffering at key points in the song and bringing everything to a halt! I really felt like I got to know the real Susan and Joe here!
That night they welcomed all their remaining guests to Tuscany and Le Filigare with a welcome dinner on the top of the hill. What started as a fairly overcast evening, finished with one of mother nature’s finest displays – an epic Tuscan sunset!
Wedding Day
After the epic sunset of the night before, we woke up to absolute torrential rain and thick fog on the morning of the wedding. And as we all had breakfast together there was an air of determined positivity that it would pass and the weather would improve in time to leave for the wedding ceremony in nearby Castellina in Chianti. Words of prayer were even spoken, and lo and behold it worked. The rain stopped, the sun shone, the fog lifted and the temperature increased to help make the day even more perfect for Joe and Susan.
I’ll never forget the moment I walked out of the church just before Susan and Joe, to see all their guests gathered in the square below along with a fair few of the locals. I captured this view them as I knew it would be a moment they would never want to forget!
It all finished in the garden of Le Filigare for some very moving speeches and a very fun party. And everyone left with very full hearts, me included! Thanks so much for having me Susan and Joe! And Le Filigare – I’ll see you again very soon!
