Alfred and Mimi’s wedding at Dartmouth House

I love happiness. It’s my favourite thing to take photos of, especially at weddings, because deep down I believe I’m there to focus on and capture the emotions of the event, and the emotion I want my couples to remember above all others is how happy they felt. Because weddings are happy, fun, joyous events. Sure there are a whole host of other emotions involved throughout the day – nerves, anticipation, anxiety, even sometimes a little sadness. But overall, on the whole, happiness is the overriding one. Sometimes people let their happiness show a little, sometimes people let it show a lot. Alfred and Mimi definitely fall into the ‘a lot’ category. I’m not sure I’ve ever met two outwardly happier people! Apart from a few emotional moments during the speeches, they wore their biggest grins with pride from the moment I arrived to the moment I left their Dartmouth House wedding.

I’ve started to work more regularly in London these days which I love, because London is a city I adore. And this was my first time as a London wedding photographer in Mayfair, and at Dartmouth House. As soon as I arrived, I knew it was my kind of venue, with beautiful dramatic natural light everywhere. Then I met Alfred and Mimi and I knew it was going to be one of those perfect days. And it was – from their Chinese tea ceremony, to their civil ceremony, honest and emotional speeches and crazy party it was so much fun for me to be part of their celebrations. And special thanks too to my great friend Rahul Khona for helping me out on the day!

In between all that we hopped in a cab to Green Park for half an hour for some relaxed portraits of Mimi and Alfred. Sometimes people can feel a bit self conscious in a busy London park but honestly it felt like we were the only ones there because these two were having such a good time together and really revelling in being “bride and groom” for the day. Their happiness is truly infectious!
