A Multi Day Borthwick Castle Wedding
B+C’s epic multi day Borthwick Castle wedding with events at Assembly Roxy and Rosslyn Chapel
Venue: Borthwick Castle, Assembly Roxy, Rosslyn Chapel
Video: Wild Call Films
Strap yourself in, this a big one! A few years ago now I was in Morocco to capture the amazing Bree and Badr’s wedding there. It’s one of my all time favourite life experiences and I’m lucky to still be in touch with them now via the wonders of Instagram, watching as their little family grows and hoping they might one day adopt me! Too weird? No?!
Anyway, Bethany was a guest at Bree and Badr’s wedding in Morocco and because of that I was so excited when she got in touch to say she was marrying Cameron – a Scotsman – in Scotland, and there would be burlesque and highland games, and a Jewish ceremony, and a handfasting ceremony and would I be up for it?
This post is a condensed version of what happened in those few days and it was beyond epic. Shall we start with some burlesque?
Oh and just to say this was my first time working with the amazing Simon and Sylwia at Wild Call Films too, and I can’t wait to work with them again. Highly recommended wedding videographers!
Day One: A pre-wedding burlesque welcome party at Assembly Roxy Edinburgh
The first event was a welcome party at the stupendous Assembly Roxy in the centre of Edinburgh. But not just any welcome party – a costume party with a burlesque show. B+C wanted to welcome their guests to Scotland with a bang and boy did they do that. It was a night of pure fun, amazing showmanship, equally amazing reactions from their friends and families and the most amazing tone-setter for the celebrations to come.
And check out these costumes!

Day Two: The Jewish Borthwick Castle Wedding Ceremony, Dinner, and Opera at Rosslyn Chapel
Phew. With everyone absolutely buzzing from that burlesque show at Assembly Roxy, we all headed to Borthwick Castle the next day for B+C’s traditional wedding day.
Borthwick Castle is something special. It’s a real castle for a start. Not a hotel called a castle, not a castle built to be a wedding venue. An actual real castle with cannon ball damage and everything. The stuff of actual legend! The team running the castle are an absolute joy and I thank them for making me feel so welcome.
What I will say about Borthwick Castle is that it has a lot of stairs!!!
Anyway, the first part of this day was B+C’s Jewish wedding ceremony in the Garrison. It was amazing, atmospheric, emotional and intimate. It felt so special.
After the ceremony they’d planned to head outside for the hora, but it was a bit too rainy so they stayed in the Garrison and I’m so glad they did, those photos are some of my favourites of the whole weekend!
After that they had some speeches and dinner, before whisking all their guests over to the world famous Rosslyn Chapel for some Opera.
Yeah. Opera. These two know how to throw a party hey?
Day two let’s go!!!

Day Three: Highland Games and Handfasting!
After spending the previous day going up and down the Borthwick Castle stairs more times than I can count, it was lovely to start day three outside in the Borthwick Castle garden. Do castles have gardens?! I feel like there must be a more castley name for it. Anyway let’s go with garden. B+C welcomed their guests back to their Borthwick Castle wedding with some traditional highland games. It was a great way to keep the atmosphere up and get everyone into the Scottish spirit for what was about to be a very Scottish day.
The ceremony this day was an ultra traditional handfasting ceremony with outfits to match.
I felt so lucky to be there with B+C this whole few days. They’d put together their perfect wedding with all their perfect people around them, and it was honestly so amazing to be part of it and to take photos of it all for them. A true experience for us all.
And of course it all finished by cutting the cake with a medieval sword and having a celidh.
Take us all back B+C!!!
