Wedding Photographer Adam Johnson

UK Wedding Photographer Adam Johnson

Welcome to ARJ Photography. I’m Adam Johnson (ARJ are my initials) and wedding photography is my thing. More specifically, I photograph weddings in a way that’s art-led, emotionally honest and full of colour, energy and real life.

A wedding is everything I love to photograph, all contained in one unique, never-to-be-repeated day. It’s people, relationships, atmosphere, movement, nerves, joy, light, chaos, calm, style, family and all the little in-between moments that end up meaning everything later.

I photograph weddings on both film and digital, using each in the way that serves the day best. Film has become a big part of how I see and make photographs, which is why I now have a dedicated page about my approach as a film wedding photographer as well as a portfolio of 35mm film wedding photos. But the bigger picture has always stayed the same: I want to create images that feel like your memories, not just a record of what happened.

I’m based between Cheshire and Manchester, and I photograph weddings across the UK and beyond – whether that means a big city celebration with me as your London wedding photographer, a countryside weekend in the Cotswolds, or something further afield as one of your destination wedding photographers. Have a scroll through the slider below for a bit more about the things that matter most to me as a photographer.

Magic Happens

Photos are magic. It’s true. By their very nature they already live in the future, doing the special job of protecting and preserving your wedding forever. Whenever you look at your photos, every feeling can still be there – they become how you remember your wedding, and how future generations understand it. A little time capsule that lets you travel back whenever you want. Totally magic.

Iconic Moments

Your wedding day is a milestone day in your life. You’re bringing all your favourite people in the world together in a place you love and planning to have an amazing time with them. I know there’ll be kisses and speeches and all the expected things, but the best moments – the truly iconic moments – are unscripted and often unexpected. That’s what I’m really there to capture.

Colour + Light

The way I work with light and colour is something I care about deeply. It’s always been important to me to develop a visual style that feels truly mine, which means nobody else’s wedding photos will look quite like yours. Film has become an important part of that visual language for me, sitting alongside digital as another way to create photographs with depth, atmosphere and character.

Art + Creativity

Uniqueness matters to me, which is why I’m not a traditional wedding photographer. I don’t spend hours lining people up for endless group shots, making people do cheesy poses or staging moments that are going to happen naturally anyway. I’ll absolutely take you away for a little while to make some beautiful portraits, but never for so long that your wedding starts happening without you. Whether I’m shooting on film or digital, the goal is always the same: honest photographs with style, feeling and intention.

Love + Happiness

You want a beautiful visual record of your wedding. Your wedding. Not the wedding I think you should have, or Pinterest thinks you should have, or the wedding magazines think you should have. That’s what I want for you too. I want the love and happiness between you – and all around you – to shine through in the photos, which is why capturing the reality of the day is what matters most to me.

Emotion + Energy

I want to give you photos that you will love forever – photographs that are meaningful, real and packed with emotion and life. To get great photos, the only commitment I need from you is to enjoy your day with every ounce of your soul. Then my job becomes easy.

These are the things that excite me most as a photographer, and they’re what have shaped the way I’ve dedicated my life to photographing weddings. It’s people, love, relationships, beautiful places, interesting details and all the atmosphere in between. Sometimes a wedding is chaotic and wild; sometimes it’s calm, emotional and full of quiet tension. Most of the time it’s both.

That’s why I photograph weddings the way I do – on film and digital, with as much care for feeling as for beauty, and always with the aim of making images that still hit hard years from now. All I need from you is for you to relax and have an absolutely amazing day
