Elena and Alex’s beautiful wedding in Taormina at San Domenico Palace

Taormina is one of my favourite places on earth, and since becoming a wedding photographer I’ve longed to shoot a wedding there. So when Elena’s email dropped into my inbox asking me if I’d photograph her Taormina wedding and being so enthusiastic and positive about my work it got me super excited! Not long after, her and Alex confirmed a booking with me and I was able to tick a big fat dream destination off my destination weddings wish list!

What’s so special about Taormina?! You have to go there to see for yourself. It’s such a magical place with such an incredible vibe. It’s tiny, and is all centred around one long strip of endless shops, bars and restaurants. It sits on top of a hill with incredible views across to Mount Etna and for such a small place it has so much to see and do. Seriously, go there, and thank me later.

Elena is Bulgarian, and Alex is German. So here is a German, marrying a Bulgarian, in a tiny village on the island of Sicily in Italy with a photographer from England! They had a beach welcome dinner on the Friday night down at Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea where they welcomed their friends and family from all over the world to Taormina for a lovely dinner by the sea after sunset. I knew straight away this was going to be a super fun day and a half as everyone was in such high spirits and made me feel so welcome there.

The next day they were back at San Domenico Palace, tucked away at the bottom of Taormina. An incredible hotel and their ceremony would take place with views across to Etna and the bay of Isolabella below. An absolutely beautiful spot for a destination wedding. They then had dinner as the sun set in the gardens of San Domenico Palace, they cut their cake and had a quick first dance in the ancient cloisters, then changed and headed to Morgana right in the centre of Taormina for one of the craziest parties I’ve ever seen!

It was such a dream to photograph a wedding in Taormina for me and even more of a dream to be there capturing the amazing Elena and Alex and their families and friends. Incredible people, with a proper zest for life and who loved every second of their wedding. I loved every second too, here’s a little sliver of what I captured!
