Rhodes Lindos Wedding Photography in Greece
Beach Wedding in Rhodes – Hanna + Mark’s Wedding in Lindos
As I drove with my usual pre-wedding apprehension through the frankly terrifying pitch-black roads of Rhodes (see what I did there?) I was thinking to myself ‘why Rhodes?’. I had been to Rhodes as a child, aged about six, so obviously I had vivid memories of the place… As I picked up my hire car, the very friendly guy asked me what I remembered from my last visit… “Calamari and Spaghetti Carbonara” was my slightly odd response, to which he gave me that look of ‘you English are odd’ and walked me to my hire car – which turned out to be completely underpowered for the Rhodes roads…
I arrived at my hotel – Lindos Memories – where the wedding was due to take place on Wednesday. I checked in around midnight and got a pity upgrade to a suite for being a lone traveller (I’m more than happy with pity upgrades) and fell quickly to sleep. The next morning when I flung back the curtains, I immediately saw the answer to my ‘why Rhodes’ question. It’s just one of those places that hits you right in your wanderlusting soul.
Where do I even start with Hanna and Mark. These two are next level. They welcomed me with open arms and squeezy hugs. Their enthusiasm for having me and my cameras there was out of this world and they made me feel like part of their inner circle from the very first moment. Their love for each other is so visible it’s inspiring. This was their dream. They were well and truly living their dream. And as well as their photographer I enjoyed being their personal chauffeur in my little spluttering fart-box of a hire car! And their family and friends became my friends too over the course of the next crazy few days. I’ve said it before but destination wedding photography can be a lonely job so to be welcomed so warmly by everyone was amazing. Thank you all!
Mark hadn’t seen Hanna’s amazing Sarah Seven dress from my friends at Love Bridal Boutique, so they got ready separately for the ceremony, but apart from that they spent the whole day together. I started the day capturing them together in their PJ’s at Lindos Sun Hotel, then we headed off to Kritamo in Pefkos for breakfast with everyone (amazing restaurant, highly recommended). Their wedding ceremony wasn’t until 6pm so this was such a great way to spend the first half of their wedding day with their family and friends.
Everything had run so smoothly, but a bit of a delay at the end of getting ready meant we arrived at Lindos Memories for the wedding ceremony a few minutes late. Hanna was then told the registrar had gone and there couldn’t be a ceremony!!! Somehow after 5 minutes of stress, panic and almost tears, her wedding planners at Lindos Weddings managed to coax the registrar back and the ceremony was able to go ahead. Phew! It was a quick beach ceremony at Lindos memories but it was absolutely packed with high emotion – Mark’s expressions as he watched Hanna walk down the beach to become his wife were absolutely perfect as he swung from almost laughing to almost crying!
After the ceremony we wandered the beach making some portraits while their guests got on the bus. The light was perfect and Hanna and Mark’s happiness was a joy for me to capture. You could tell they were on cloud nine. After being rushed onto the bus (people don’t like waiting in Greece), they headed to catch a boat which would take them to their reception at Skala Beach Restaurant and after Mark firemans lifted Hanna across the sand we had a bit more time for portraits as their guests settled in.
After that it was food, drink and party time.
Hanna and Mark had asked everyone on their RSVP cards what song they would commit to dancing to! And that formed their playlist which kept their dance floor bouncing all night long. I had put Don’t Look Back in Anger and I’ll never forget that coming on as the final song of the evening, surrounded by Hanna, Mark and their guests all with at least four drinks each as they’d just made the most of last orders, everyone just euphorically happy. An amazing moment at the end of a day jam packed full of amazing moments.
Portraits were especially important to Hanna and Mark so the following day at sunset we met up again to explore the beach and mountains of Lindos. I’ve never laughed so much as we all shredded our feet on the rocks and scrambled through the spiky plants all in the name of great photos.
An amazing experience with amazing people. And I was so overjoyed to get this message from Hanna:
“Oh my goodness! I don’t think I have any more ways to tell you how happy we are with them. They are so amazing. Thank you so much! I had high hopes when I first looked at your work but you blew that out of the water!”
And with that I give you a selection of my favourites from Hanna and Mark’s Greek destination wedding in Lindos, Rhodes.
